Our positive impact: doing better by people and the planet

At Huddle, insurance isn’t just about peace of mind—it’s about making a real difference. Huddle is owned and operated by Australia’s first certified B Corp insurance company, and since 2017, we’ve been committed to meeting high standards of environmental and social responsibility.

Huddling together for a greener tomorrow

We reduce emissions through usage-based insurance and support wildlife and community initiatives, all as part of our impact strategy to enhance the resilience of people and the planet. By designing products that drive positive outcomes and tackle the challenges of climate change, we help our customers today while building a more resilient future.

How we’re using insurance as a force for good

Pay As You Drive accounts for 70% of Huddle's car insurance policies.

1) Pay As You Drive car insurance

We were amongst the first insurance providers in Australia to introduce Pay As You Drive car insurance. Customers who drive 15,000 km or less each year can save up to 30% on their premium compared to choosing our regular Comprehensive Cover1. With these savings, it’s no surprise that PAYD now accounts for so many of our car insurance policies.

2) Complimentary carbon offsetting

In 2022, we introduced free carbon offsets for all new car and home insurance policies3, giving our customers an easy way to reduce their carbon footprint at no extra cost to them. We offset 200kg of CO₂ for new car policies (that’s like taking 17 cars off the road for a day) and 40kg for home policies. We do this through our partnership with Greenfleet by planting biodiverse, native forests that are legally protected for 100 years in Australia. As these forests grow, they absorb carbon, improve air, soil and water quality and restore essential habitats for native wildlife.

Since launching this initiative, we’ve donated $65,000 and collectively offset a total of 3,178 tonnes of CO₂.

Our latest contribution in 2023 went towards a revegetation project at Glendalough in Victoria, which now has been restored with 38 native species. Read more about the project.

3) Kanga Cover for wildlife protection

Through our optional Kanga Cover add-on to our Comprehensive and Huddle Black car insurance, we help protect Australia’s wildlife. We donate $4 from every new Kanga Cover policy to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC). So far, we’ve donated $12,000 in support of the incredible work they do, protecting native Australian species and their habitats. AWC currently manages 6.5 million hectares of conservation land across 31 locations, providing sanctuaries for thousands of endangered native animals. We believe you shouldn’t be unfairly charged for ‘living in Australia’. That’s why we offer excess-free coverage for your first accidental animal collision claim within a 12 month period, saving you money and protecting both you and Australia’s wildlife in the process.

4) Investing in resilience

Building resilience is central to everything we do. We understand the direct impacts of climate events like bushfires, hail storms and floods and are committed to supporting communities and ecosystems. Since our founding, we’ve donated over $200,000 to impactful causes like WWF Australia, Greening Australia, and the Australian Youth Climate Coalition. In 2023, we made our largest contribution yet, donating $100,000 to the Karrkad Kanjdji Trust. This partnership supports Indigenous rangers in managing 65,000 square kilometres of biodiverse land, ensuring long-term cultural and environmental resilience for future generations.

1. Saving of up to 30% derived from premium comparisons between Huddle unlimited kilometre comprehensive car cover option and Huddle Pay As You Drive comprehensive car cover option. Calculations based on a sample of profiles of existing Huddle car insurance customers who advised they drive under 15,000 km annually. Current as at 9 May 2024. Actual savings are determined by your individual circumstances, including the kilometres selected, excess chosen and other risk factors. Minimum premiums may reduce savings. Kilometres can be increased during the policy period, an additional premium is payable. In the event of an accident and the end odometer reading is exceeded or is below the start odometer reading on your Certificate of Insurance, an additional excess is applied.

2. Huddle will pay to help offset your carbon emissions by planting and protecting native forests when you buy a new policy and we offer you this option. Huddle does this by partnering with Greenfleet. They plant biodiverse, native forests in Australia and New Zealand, which are legally protected for 100 years. New policies from 29 November 2022.
